Growing up in foster care in New York City, I faced numerous challenges that deeply affected my mind and heart. It was in my 2nd grade art class where I discovered my love for drawing, and soon after, poetry became my outlet for self-expression. As a timid child, creating stories helped me find my voice. In 11th grade at Elmont Memorial High School in Long Island, New York, the concept of Breakout Art took shape. Art became my way of decompressing and breaking free from the chains of expectations and trauma. When I moved to Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, I noticed a lack of diverse art scenes, prompting me to transform my high school vision into something I could share with the community I fell in love with. Despite my circumstances, I strive to be a caring, honest, and humanistic individual, bringing wisdom, humor, and creative inspiration. My mission is to break barriers of race, status, and class by promoting peace and creativity. I encourage fellow artists of our generation to embrace their fullest potential. My ultimate goal is to establish a creative hub and arts center for both youth and adults, where art and love take center stage, illuminating the darkness of our world. Through poetry, I seek solutions and healing. I have a deep love for children and art, and my vision includes creating a space where both can thrive.
We know the importance of capturing the essence of the people. Sharing their stories and voices creates timelessness. We are recording our own history today by engaging in the arts. Each creation representing our story, our experiences, our realizations. Breakout Art Movement is a Culture, through sharing and expression. Join the Movement. Create.
We are so excited to introduce our creative writing workshops to the community. Our workshops challenge and intrigue participants to engage in poetry with mental health themes. There are many people who are trying poetry for the first time through these experiences. There are also experienced poets enjoying the structure and creative process of our workshops. Our workshops encourage self care through the introduction of some mindfulness techniques like in our workshop 'Rhythm & Reflect: Flowing Through Mindful Poetry'.
